These Terms of Use ("Terms" or "EULA") govern your use of the Yomiko: Japanese Reading mobile application (the "App"), developed by Vadim Semenko (Sly13). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
We grant you a limited, non‑exclusive, non‑transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non‑commercial purposes on Apple devices that you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the Usage Rules set out therein.
The App helps you learn to read Japanese: it presents graded reading stories, analyses Japanese text on your device to show furigana and word boundaries, lets you tap any word to see its meaning and reading, and turns the words you save into spaced‑repetition (SRS) flashcards tied to the sentence you met them in. Your reading progress and study deck are stored on your device. See our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled.
The App uses open language resources with gratitude. Dictionary data is derived from the JMdict/EDICT project, © the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG), used under licence (CC BY‑SA 4.0). Morphological analysis is performed on your device using MeCab with the IPADIC dictionary. Attribution and licence details are also available inside the App under Settings → About & attribution.
The App is free to download and includes optional "Yomiko Pro" purchases that unlock the full library, SRS reviews, audio, and offline use:
Free trial. If you start a free trial, you will not be charged during the trial period. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription will automatically convert to the corresponding paid subscription and your Apple ID will be charged. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Auto‑renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto‑renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price of the selected plan. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings after purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
You agree to use the App lawfully and not to misuse, reverse‑engineer, or interfere with the App except as permitted by applicable law.
The App, its original story content, and its design are owned by Vadim Semenko (Sly13) and protected by intellectual property laws, except for third‑party data used under their respective licences (see Section 4). These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks or branding.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the App will be error‑free or that the readings, definitions, or translations it produces are accurate for any particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vadim Semenko (Sly13) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the App.
These Terms are between you and Vadim Semenko (Sly13) only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. In case of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third‑party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
